I had to take poor Emma to the pediatrician’s office today. I dread going so, we are actually two months overdue for her check up. I dread it for one reason…they are NEVER on schedule. I will go and normally wait over an hour to be seen…sometimes longer. It is seriously ridiculous! BUT, I love the doctor and the reason she is always running behind is because she loves her patients so much. She is soooo super nice and is very conservative. She doesn’t give anti-biotics at the first sign of a sniffle. And she doesn’t worry about anything that isn’t very serious. I really appreciate that and I know if there were anything she might see and bring up, I would know to take that to heart. The reason she said she was late today was because one of her patients, a 14-year-old, was recently discovered as being anorexic. She took the extra time to explain to her all the reasons anorexia is dangerous and is going to see her once a week until she gains back the 9 pounds she has lost since January. It is for this reason that my insanely-timely-self puts up with this tardiness. I hope to never have that issue with Emma. But, I am glad I would have a doctor who cares!

On a positive note, though…the doctor laughed when I said I was worried about Emma’s speech. She said if she is understanding what I am saying to her, then she is fine and not to worry at all. She’ll talk when she is ready. Emma weighs 25 pounds and is 32 1/4 inches tall. Her weight is in the 70% and her height is in the 75%. Her head/brain is in the 80%. Of course, I don’t need the doc to tell me she is smart! LOL! Emma had to have three shots and a finger prick. The poor thing was soooo worked up, it took her almost 10 minutes to stop snubbing. She had tears going all down her face and runny nose! It was just pitiful! LOL! I got her fave food after we left and we came back and ate a late lunch and I put her down for a nap. She was practically asleep before I even laid her down.

I don’t know if I could be more proud of a child. She is such a doll and I just love being with her soooo much!

When I got Emma dressed this morning, Richard made the comment that she is a summer baby because she looked so cute in her little dress. He told me to get some pictures. I have been meaning to get some taken at the park so, I took the opportunity to combine the ideas and got some really great shots. We went for our stroll and then afterwards, we stopped at the entrance where there is this huge grassy area. She had a blast rolling her ball around, she met a little girl named Kendall and THEN she found pebbles! I took so many photos! Here are just a few!

It is so funny to see Emma growing up. I am really enjoying being a Mom to her and wonder if it is possible for me to love another the same. I know I will be able to but, sometimes it seems that I am sooo smitten with Emma. This is one of those moments. Actually, Dad (thankfully) snapped this wonderful photo…I was just behind him and caught the same sight! What a hoot!

And now, Emma’s vocabulary consists of Mama, Bo (which means Pablo, her favorite TV character…she’s almost adding the “Pa” to this but not quite there yet), and Ba (which means ball, and really anything). Because she is very into playing with balls right now, she calls everything a ball. I guess she is learning what is and what isn’t a ball.

Now, don’t confuse her talking with understanding. She knows lots of what you are telling her. She knows her mom and dad in a picture. She can identify all five of her favorite characters. She also knows her body parts (eyes, nose, ears, hair, mouth, and belly). She can put her shapes in the right holes of her little shape-sorter. And she can put basic puzzles together. She sometimes likes to drink from a straw. But, at first try she’ll just put her mouth on it. When you tell her to ’suck’, she’ll get a mouthful of whatever is inside the cup. She almost always listens to no. Sometimes she will fuss. But, really, she is such a good baby.

Her biggest frustration is why she can’t walk around wherever she is. She wants down so bad, she can’t stand it sometimes. Last night, I let her walk around Wal-mart just to see what she would do. She did pretty good, actually. It’s funny, though…she walked right to the baby department, followed by the toy department. I guess she knows where that one is, huh?!?!

Ahhh, there is so much I could brag about with her…but I will save it for another post!
